General information

Registration of a vessel involved in water traffic must be done within 5 days after the purchase or importation of the vessel from a foreign country.

Rowing boats are registered on a voluntary basis, unless the municipality or another owner of inland waters intends to register rowing boats in the waters belonging to it.

Vessel registration can be performed in any of the CSDD customer service centers, regardless of the residence of the vessel owner or the place of previous registration of the vessel.

If the vessel was purchased from the manufacturer or its official representative in Latvia and an acceptance report has been completed electronically in the CSDD register, the acquirer of the vessel can complete the application for the registration of the vessel and receipt of the registration certificate by mail or at any CSDD customer service centre electronically in e-CSDD (detailed information: Registration in e-CSDD).

When registering a vessel, a state registration number shall be assigned to it and the type of the number plate conforming to the state standard LVS 413: 2002 "State registration number plates for vessel" shall be determined. After registration, the owner of the vessel can choose to receive the stickers or stencils of the state registration number assigned to the vessel or to arrange for the number to be placed on the vessel himself.

Additional information on the general conditions for registration of vessels can be found in the section "General conditions for registration of vessels".
