General information
CSDD caries out certification of vehicles for the purpose of selling and registration in Latvia. In accordance with Regulation No. 1494 of the Cabinet of Ministers “Regulation on conformity assessment of mopeds, motor vehicles, their trailers and components” only those vehicles may be placed on the market and permanently registered in Latvia which comply with statutory technical requirements of the European Union and of Latvia.
It is necessary to certify:
- new, previously not permanently registered vehicles (mopeds, motorcycles, tricycles, quadricycles, cars, buses and lorries, as well as trailers or semi-trailers of the said vehicles) which are placed on the market in Latvia and which will be permanently registered in Latvia;
- used, i.e. previously permanently registered abroad vehicles (mopeds, motorcycles, tricycles, quadricycles, cars, buses and lorries, as well as trailers or semi-trailers of the said vehicles) which are manufactured after 31 December 2000 and which will be permanently registered in Latvia.
Exempt from the certification are:
- sports moped, motorcycle, tricycle or quadricycle having homologation according to the requirements of the International Motorcycling Federation and which is or will be registered in the name of the athlete licenced by the Latvian Motorcyclists Federation or the member of the Latvian Motorcyclists Federation;
- sports car having homologation according to the requirements of the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile and which is or will be registered in the name of the athlete licenced by the Latvian Automobile Federation or the member of the Latvian Automobile Federation;
- snowmobile;
- vehicle registered for the first time before 1 January 2001;
- vehicle registered for the first time as from 1 January 2001, but year of manufacture or model year indicated in the foreign registration document of which is 2000 or earlier.
