Renewal of a stolen or lost licence
A driving licence is renewed for a person who permanently resides in Latvia and whose normal residence is in Latvia ( Section 22, Paragraph 1, Paragraph 1 of the Road Traffic Law ).
A lost or stolen driving licence shall be renewed without testing.
Necessary documents:
- identity document - passport, personal identification (ID) card, driving licence, driving licence of a recreational vessel or small vessel, driving permit;
- medical examination (medical certificate). The person can check its validity in the e-CSDD or in person at the CSDD. The medical examination may be performed by a general practitioner or by medical commissions established in medical treatment institutions.
Driving licences can be renewed only in person at any CSDD customer service center, where driver licencing services are provided. No prior appointment is required for the visit.
You can also report the loss of your driver's licence if you do not renew for a period of time by submitting a written application to the CSDD customer service center (in person or by post).
A driving licence that has been reported as lost or stolen is not valid as a driving licence. According to Section 30 of the Road Traffic Law, if a driving licence has been stolen or lost and a new driving licence has not been received in the State Register of Vehicles and their Drivers within 30 days from the date of registration of the relevant information, the prohibition on exercising the right to drive enters into force.
