Transit number plates will be issued in the following cases:

| A vehicle registered in Latvia, which is intended to be exported from Latvia for alienation or permanent operation abroad | In Latvia - five days,
outside Latvia - 30 days |
| A vehicle not registered in Latvia, which participates in road traffic, crossing the territory of Latvia in transit, if, upon entering Latvia, it does not have valid number plates | In Latvia - five days,
outside Latvia - 30 days |
| A vehicle not registered in Latvia, which is intended to be registered in Latvia, but before registration, the vehicle must be rebuilt or a certificate of conformity must be received (the service is available from 01.01.2019.) | In Latvia and outside Latvia - 30 days |
The assignment of a transit number is confirmed by a transit number card issued together with the transit number plates.
Transit number plates are not issued for off-road vehicles.
Important! The validity of transit number plates may be extended once for the same period as before by issuing a new transit number card. If the vehicle is not removed from the country within the set time limit, it shall not be re-numbered.
