General information

According to the End-of-Life Vehicles Management Law, the owner of a car, lorry with a gross vehicle weight of up to 3,500 kg, is obliged to ensure that any end-of-life vehicle in his possession is handed over to a treatment facility. Tricycles and quadricycles can also be handed over to the processing company, but this obligation is not mandatory for the owner of these vehicles.

Treatment facility in turn must ensure that the owner of the end-of-life vehicle can transfer the vehicle to the acceptance point of the treatment facility without any cost, if the end-of-life vehicle does not lack the essential components of the engine, steering gear, chassis, transmission, and if there is no additional waste in the vehicle and the vehicle is not registered in the Commercial Pledge Register.

A passenger car and a cargo vehicle with a gross weight of up to 3500 kg can be written off at the CSDD without being handed over to a processing company, if:

  • the vehicle register contains information that the vehicle has been searched for longer than a year, or a document issued by the State Police confirming this fact is submitted;
  • a document is submitted certifying that the vehicle has perished, as evidenced by, for example, a vehicle liquidation certificate issued by a foreign processing company, a certificate issued by a foreign competent authority (police, fire department) stating that the vehicle has perished and has been handed over to a processing company;
  • the owner of the vehicle or his/her authorized person certifies that the vehicle has been destroyed or has perished before 01.05.2004 (exclusive), and no actions (registration or technical inspection) have been performed with this vehicle in the vehicle register since 01.05.2004 (inclusive).
  • the owner of the vehicle certifies that the vehicle has been destroyed, has perished or for it is impossible to hand over the vehicle to the processing company for other reasons, and that the natural resource tax provided by laws and regulations, 165 euros, has been paid for it.

For the transfer of the end-of-life vehicle (numbered unit) for treatment, the treatment company must issue a certificate of destruction to the owner of the end-of-life vehicle, which is a printout from the register. If the owner has disassembled the vehicle or handed over some of its units to the treatment plant, the certificate of destruction must be issued only for the numbered unit (body, cab, frame).

When issuing a liquidation certificate, the treatment facility must write off the end-of-life vehicle in the CSDD register.

If the vehicle has to be transported to the treatment facility, the owner of the vehicle must agree with the treatment facility separately. It must also be agreed separately with the treatment facility if the owner of the vehicle wishes to keep and further use certain components of the vehicle.

Acceptance of a end-of-life vehicle from the owner (see section "Persons who may hand over the vehicle to a treatment facility") is only permitted after inspection if all the necessary documents and number plates are provided (see subsection "Required documents") and if the vehicle (numbered unit) technical data of the records correspond to those indicated in the submitted documents and there are no suspicions about the unit numbers or forgeries of the submitted documents.

A vehicle that has been handed over for treatment and written off is prohibited from further registration as a vehicle. It is forbidden to participate in road traffic with such a vehicle.

Important
The vehicle owner can keep the state registration number plates of the vehicle to be transferred to the treatment facility for one year for registration of another vehicle if before or after the write-off the number plates are transfered to the CSDD customer service center (see section "Possibility to keep the state registration number for another vehicle").
