Use of a learners driver permit

A learners driver permit may be used only in the territory of Latvia. At the end of the period of validity of the learner drivers permit, it must be exchanged for a new permit.

Prior permit should be submitted to the CSDD only in cases when it has not yet expired.

Training trips may only be conducted by a trainer (a driving instructor holding a driving licence and an instructor licence in the relevant category, but in the case of lay instruction by a driver with at least 3 years experience of the relevant category)  and only when the learner has acquired sufficiently good basic driving skills and complies with the requirements of the Road Traffic Regulations.

Local governments in their administrative territory have the right to determine the roads along which from. 7.00 to 10.00 and from 16:00 to 20:00 training trips are forbidden. For information, please contact the relevant municipality.
