Initial and routine examination

Initial and periodic medical examinations must be carried out by drivers and persons wishing to obtain a driver's qualification (except for cyclists).

The health examination is performed by:

  • a general practitioner in whose patient list a person is registered and in whose health care this person has been for at least 6 months;
  • a medical commission has been established in the medical institution, which is headed by a family doctor or internist and which consists of a neurologist, ophthalmologist, otorhinolaryngologist, surgeon or traumatologist, orthopedist, psychiatrist and narcologist.

The validity period of the health examination can be checked by the person free of charge in the e-CSDD.

After the health examination, the doctor or the head of the medical commission shall, within 2 working days, enter facts established in the personal health examination in the State Register of Vehicles and their Drivers. This means that a person does not need a medical certificate in "paper format".

Deadlines for health examination:

  • Drivers of categories AM, A1, A, B1, B and BE every 10 years, for persons over 60 years of age - maximum every 3 years;
  • Drivers of categories C1, C, D1, D, C1E, CE, D1E and DE every 5 years, for persons over 60 years of age - maximum every 3 years.

The necessity and procedure of the health examination is determined by the Road Traffic Law and Cabinet Regulation No. 940 “ Regulations on health examinations for drivers and persons wishing to obtain the qualification of drivers, as well as on the procedure for covering the costs of early health examination ”.
