Manufacturing of vehicles

General information

Manufacturing of vehicles is regulated by Regulation No. 100 of the Cabinet of Ministers “Technical documentation of design of newly built vehicles and assigning and incorporation of the world manufacturer identifier”. Individual manufacturing of category O1 and O2 vehicles (trailers having maximum mass up to 3500 kg) is permitted without drawing-up the technical documentation and endorsement of it by CSDD.

It is allowed to use mass production components appropriate for the given category of vehicles in the design of the individually manufactured trailer, but it is forbidden to use axles and parts of bodies and suspension of motor vehicles. Requirements concerning light devices, location of the registration number plate, braking system, tyres and other components, as well as general design, are summarised in Guidelines on Manufacturing provisions.

Procedure for endorsement of the design and checks of the individually manufactured trailer:

1. obtaining the consent for the design by sending photos (views from the front, rear, sides, underside etc.) of the trailer to the e-mail tksi@csdd.gov.lv;
2. CSDD calls the client on the number indicated in the said e-mail in order to clarify or indicate changes in the design of the trailer to be carried out;
3. submission of the trailer for checking the design at the Certification centre of CSDD. Address: 78, Mazjumpravas street, Rīga. Individual certification and check of the design must be booked in advance. For application call: 29231989;
4. should any incompliance be established at the check of the design or individual certification, it must be rectified, and the trailer is subject to repeated check;
5. upon granting of the individual certificate the trailer is to be registered at any of the CSDD service centers.
