The sliding year allows to evaluate the current year's trends regarding the number of fatalities
In 2023, the EU average was 46, Sweden 22; Bulgaria 82 fatalities per million inhabitants. Only 4 Member States had a death rate equal to or greater than 60 per million inhabitants
The data for the last two months may be incomplete, as the data from the database of the Ministry of the Interior is obtained once a month until the 10th, and also because persons who died within 30 days of the accident are considered accident fatalities
Serious traffic crashes are investigated by the police and expert examinations are carried out, taking into account newly acquired information during the investigation of the crashes. Data for the previous year are usually updated by May of the current year
