General information
In order to participate in road traffic with a vehicle intended for sale, which is not registered or registered in Latvia, the vehicle must be fitted with trade number plates (for more information on the procedure for use, see the section "Procedure for the use of trade numbers ").
Merchants who have registered a point of sale in the CSDD can receive trade numbers in any of the CSDD customer service centres.
Certain types of registration plates may only be used on vehicles of the relevant categories. The type of trade number shall be indicated in the trade number. A distinction is made between the following types of trade numbers:
- A - for mopeds, motorcycles, tricycles and quadricycles;
- B - for passenger cars, as well as for lorries, the gross weight of which does not exceed 3500 kg;
- C - for trucks with a gross vehicle weight exceeding 3500 kg;
- D - for buses;
- E - trailers.
Trade number plates are used and they are valid only in the territory of Latvia.
Trade number plates are issued within three working days after the submission of the documents required for the receipt of numbers to the CSDD.
Trade number plates are issued for a period of up to 1 year.
If, when using trade number plates, a penalty has been imposed for administrative violations in road traffic, incl. for violations of the rules of stopping and parking, the CSDD will not issue new trade number plates to the merchant until the fine has been paid.
