Renewal of a lost or stolen vehicle number

General information

In addition to the one or two license plates provided for the vehicle, in case of loss or theft of the number plate, one additional license plate marked with an identical combination of symbols can be obtained.

A lost number is restored by receiving new number plates if:

  • two number plates have been issued for the vehicle and both issued number plates have been lost;
  • an additional number plate had been previously issued for the vehicle and has been lost;
  • the number plate has been stolen and it has been declared searched by the State Police.

When restoring a lost number, another state registration number is assigned to the vehicle and a new license plate(s) is issued, but the previous one becomes invalid, and it is prohibited to assign the corresponding state registration number in the future (see "Vehicle number change").

Before registering the number change, it is also possible to choose the state registration number to be registered for the vehicle (see "Option to choose the state registration number").

If the lost number plate (plates) is (are) found and returned to CSDD before replacement and the vehicle roadworthiness testing has not expired, a note is made in the vehicle register about the found number plate (plates). The found number plate (plates) is (are) destroyed if the found number plate (plates) is (are) not replaced within six months or the owner has not applied to CSDD to receive it (them).
