Requirements for obtaining personalised number plate
The combination of symbols can be letters of the Latin alphabet and Arabic numerals or just letters. There can be only one space between letters and numbers, which is also considered a symbol. A space is used only to separate words or words and numbers.
Personalised number plates depending on the type of number plates installed (more: Number plate types) may have the following number and arrangement of symbols:
- Type A - two to eight symbols arranged in one line;
- Type B - two to seven symbols that can be placed on both lines of the number plates. Number plates will be placed in the first (top) line from one to three symbols, and in the second (bottom) line - from one to four symbols. Type B number plates with two to four symbols will be made by placing the symbols in the second (bottom) line, if the combination of symbols is not made up of two parts or it is not possible to divide it into two parts. Type B number plates with five to seven symbols will be made if the combination of symbols consists of two parts (two words) or it is possible to divide it into two parts;
- Type C - two to eight symbols that can be placed on both lines of the number plates, from one to four symbols in each line. Type C number plates with two to four symbols will be made by placing the symbols in the second (bottom) line, if the combination of symbols is not made up of two parts or it is not possible to divide it into two parts. Type C number plates with five to eight symbols will be made if the combination of symbols consists of two parts (two words) or it is possible to divide it into two parts;
- Type F - two to five symbols that can be placed on both lines of the number plates. Number plates will be placed in the first (top) line from one to two symbols, and in the second (bottom) line - from one to three symbols. In type F number plates with two to three symbols, the symbols are placed in the second (bottom) line, if the combination of symbols is not made up of two parts or it is not possible to divide it into two parts. Type F number plates with four to five symbols shall be made if the combination of symbols consists of two parts (two words) or it is possible to divide it into two parts;
- Type G - two to four symbols that can be placed on both lines of the number plates. Number plates will contain one symbol in the first (top) row and one to three symbols in the second (bottom) row. In type G number plates with two to three symbols, the symbols are placed in the second (bottom) line, if the combination of symbols is not made up of two parts or it is not possible to divide it into two parts. Type G number plates with four symbols are made if the combination of symbols consists of two parts (two words) or it can be divided into two parts.
No more than three identical symbols in a row may be used in personalised number plates.
Alphanumeric symbols cannot be used interchangeably but are arranged so that the numeric symbols follow the alphanumeric symbols or vice versa.
The combination of symbols may not contain a combination of letters that does not comply with the regulatory requirements of the Latvian language, and the combination of symbols may not form obscene and rude words, as well as the names of institutions in both Latvian and other languages.
