EU vehicle type-approval

Latvia recognizes type-approvals issued by the official certification institutions of the EU Member States for:

  • cars (category M1), goods vehicles (categories N1, N2, N3) and their trailers (categories O1, O2, O3, O4), buses/coaches (categories M2, M3), if the type-approval has been granted in accordance with the requirements of Directive 2007/46/EC or Regulation 2018/858;
  • mopeds, motorcycles, tricycles and quadricycles, if the type-approval has been granted in accordance with the requirements of Regulation (EU) No. 168/2013.

The importer, manufacturer or its representative registers the recognized vehicle type-approvals with CSDD.

In order to register vehicle type-approval the following is to be submitted:

  • application;
  • vehicle type-approval certificate or its copy;
  • information package annexed to the type-approval certificate by the manufacturer, if it is not available in the common electronic data exchange system of type-approval authorities.

Registration of type-approvals is done within 10 working days.

Registration of type-approvals is at the expense of the person who submitted application for the registration of the type-approval to CSDD. Amount of payment depends on the number of variants within the type which importer, manufacturer or its representative wants to place on the market in Latvia.
