Persons who may place a vehicle for sale
The acceptance of a vehicle or numbered unit for sale is permitted if the vehicle or numbered unit has been placed on the market by:
- the merchant who is engaged in trade, has purchased the vehicle or numbered unit as a product from the manufacturer or its official representative, imported from abroad or has purchased from the person for whom the vehicle or numbered unit is registered abroad;
- The registered owner of a vehicle or numbered unit registered in Latvia or its representative;
- its manufacturer in Latvia;
- the person for whom the vehicle or numbered unit is registered abroad;
- a representative of a competent state or local government institution, if the vehicle is recognized as property belonging to the state.
Upon presentation of a valid identity document (passport, identity card, driving license issued by the CSDD or learner’s permit), the vehicle or numbered unit may be handed over to the treatment facility:
The representative of the owner of the vehicle or numbered unit must additionally present a document (power of attorney) confirming the representative's right to handle the vehicle or numbered unit and submit a copy of this document (the document does not have to be presented if the merchant has information on the rights of this person's representative).
If the owner of the vehicle or numbered unit is a natural person, the authorization of a notary or another person specified in Section 1474 of the Civil Law is mandatory for the authorization.
