Option to hold a state registration number for another vehicle

The owner (keeper, possessor) of the vehicle may reserve the vehicle state registration number that has been previously registered and changed for its registration with another vehicle owned (kept, possessed) by them or another person. General use number plates can be reserved for the registration of vehicles that do not require granting of the number plates of special (transit, commercial, test, diplomatic, taxi, off-road or military) use. Number plates of special use may be reserved for the registration of transport vehicles conforming to special conditions of use only! A reserved number plate of general use can also be used for the registration of a vehicle driven by an electric engine. In this case, the number plates with symbols in blue colour will be produced. When reserving a number for another person, the data of this person must be specified: for a natural person – their name, surname and personal identification number; for a legal entity – its name and registration number.

Number reservation can be made in the following ways:

• by changing the reserved number to another one (Vehicle number change). You can register such a number for another vehicle within one year after changing the number; for personalized number plates a term limit is not set;
• if it is assigned to a written-off vehicle (including the one transferred to a processing company) at the time of its writing-off. Such a number can be reserved and registered for another vehicle within one year after the vehicle was written off.

You can reserve a number at any CSDD customer service centre if the number plates to be reserved have been handed over to CSDD.

The person for whom the number is reserved can receive the information about the reservation term of the number in e-CSDD by opening the "Information about the vehicle / Reserved numbers" section or in any CSDD customer service centre.

NB! Further disposal of the assigned state registration number is prohibited.

The number can be reserved by the following persons:

If the number is reserved for a person who is the owner (keeper, possessor) of the vehicle at the time of the number change or writing-off, any adult can make the reservation.

If the number is reserved for a person who is not the owner (keeper, possessor) of the vehicle at the time of the number change or writing-off, the reservation can be made by the vehicle owner (keeper, possessor) or his authorized person.

In case of a power of attorney, the following powers are valid:

• An authorization note made either on e-CSDD or at any CSDD customer service centre (learn more: Issue of a power of attorney in e-CSDD or in person);
• A certified power of attorney of a sworn notary or other person specified in Article 1474 of the Civil Law that gives a right to perform the necessary action.

The person reserving a number shall present their passport or ID card at the CSDD customer service centre. A driver's document issued by CSDD can be presented if the Population Register contains the information about a person’s valid passport or ID card.

Change of the person indicated in the reservation

If the number is reserved for a person who was the owner (keeper, possessor) of the vehicle at the time of the number change or writing-off, it is possible to change the person to whom the number is reserved once a year. The one-year term limit does not apply to personalized numbers.

The person indicated in the reservation note can be changed at any CSDD customer service center or e-CSDD.

At CSDD customer service center, the person indicated in the reservation note can be changed by the person for whom the number is reserved, or by an authorized person of that person, by presenting their personal passport or ID card. A driver's document issued by CSDD can be presented if the Population Register contains information about a valid personal passport or ID card.

Payments

* The fee is not payable if the number under reservation is registered on the day of the number change for another vehicle owned or held by the person to whom this number was registered before the number change, and the changed number plates have the symbols of the European Union and the type of number plate corresponds to the vehicle design.
